PRESIDENT'S PALETTE

The sun is back! Hooray! If you haven't already submitted paintings by email to Cheryl for the March show, and you don't know yet what you will be entering, it's time to get cracking! I'm feeling like painting again after a lull over the Christmas break, and I've got a project in mind. I hope you do too. If not, scan through artists' magazines, art books, old photographs that you took with a painting in mind, and things will start to gel in your mind.
Don't forget the entry day will be Saturday February 25.
See you then and there at Well Street Art Gallery!
Happy painting!
Helen Howard, President

FROM BECKY’S CORNER

Greetings and Salutations, Mighty Artists!

A huge thank you goes out to the Marvelous Sue Cole, and all the braveheart members who weathered the cold to attend the January meeting.  It was well worth it, as the program was sooooo much fun!  Sue shared her techniques, some new, some well-loved, for painting moons and northern lights.  Her northern light paintings are among my favorite, so I was especially pleased to learn more about them.  Thank you, Sue!  Check out our Fairbanks Watercolor Society First Friday facebook page for fun photos, and "like" the site while you're there!

I am so excited about the upcoming FWS show at the Well Street Art Company (aka Well Street Gallery).  If it is half as much fun as last year, it will be an absolute blast!  Be sure to submit your "Interior Lights" pieces, and remember, the theme can be loosely interpreted.  This show draws a large crowd, and the number of sales made last year was impressive, to say the least!

This month's program will be another fun "paint-in".  Bring your paint box materials, and artists trading cards-sized watercolor paper, as we will be learning new techniques from Karin Huehold, who will be our program presenter (via DVD, that is).  We will be painting beautiful little watercolors, using new and creative techniques.  Plus, it's always fun to paint together with this crazy group!  If you have ideas for upcoming programs, please contact me at beckalisa@aol.com.  Suggestions are welcomed!  I'm still trying to figure out how to have a studio-sharing experience via power point.  Is anyone out there power point savvy??

From my Corner of the Studio to Yours,
That's the scoop!
Becky

NELDA’S NOTE

ANNUAL SHOW:
Well folks, our Annual March show is getting closer….. on March 2nd, First Friday.  Hope you have a few paintings planned and/or painted.  The theme for 2012 is “INTERIOR LIGHT”.     Watercolor and watermedia will be accepted.  You can focus on indoor-light through a window or a light bulb!, outdoor – light in the woods, still life with a glow and even portraits!  But, the light should be predominant.  It will be exciting to see what people come up with.  We will again have the people’s choice.  Dues must be current. We will be at Well Street Art Company, the commission is 50/50 as last year.  Up to three paintings will be accepted.  The turn-in date will be Sat. Feb. 25th.   Please note, you can always make special arrangements if that date does not work for you. (I already have received 3.)  Call Nelda 456-3329 to coordinate, please.  For now, just paint, paint, paint.  We have the Official Guidelines for the show and also the Artist Paintings forms attached.
