FAIRBANKS WATERCOLOR SOCIETY -  NEWSLETTER – FEBRUARY – 2013

MONTHLY MEETING, WEDNESDAY,  FEBRUARY 20TH.     In the Blue Room, 3rd floor of the Civic Center Building at Pioneer Park.     6:30 Social time, 7:00 Meeting starts.

REFRESHMENTS:

This month our Refreshment list has Steve Holford, Dan Kennedy, Ritchie Musick and Nikki Kinne.  We all thank you so much.  We love the goodies!!   Contact Marj Moberly at 457-4661 if you have any questions or are unable to be there.

PRESIDENT'S PAGE

Hello all.
Don't forget to bring your painting supplies to this months meeting, as we will be painting. Steve will have details.
Congratulations to all who had art accepted into The Patterns of Influence Juried Exhibit. It will hang thru Feb so be sure to check it out if you haven't already.
A reminder, Art Expo is coming up March 9th at Alaskaland. FWS will have a booth there, promoting watercolor. I think we may need a few volunteers to help booth-sit, so let Nelda know if you can make it.

See you on the 20th.
Matt Moberly, President

STEVE’S SCOOP:

Hellooooooo fellow FWS members; thank you for being crazy enough to nominate and trust me with being your Vice President! It’s kind of like giving your blind uncle the keys to the car.   I’m excited to announce we have a great year ahead of us with great outings, talented keynote speakers, and more painting during meetings. We will be pushing the boundaries on our watercolor skills, discovering the myriad of talents amongst our members, and strengthening our business acumen. Members, such as Tom Nixon & Sue Cole, have agreed to share their well-earned knowledge during meeting workshops.  Art gurus such as Jill Marshall have agreed to share the business side of things. February’s meeting is going to be full of romance (don’t worry, I won’t be kissing anyone) as we explore “the Romance of Art” through watercolor painting. Bring your supplies, paints, & paper to this meeting so we can spread some love with our brushes. If you are new to the FWS, don’t have supplies, or intimidated by painting amongst your peers; have no worries …I’m bringing extra supplies and we have an amazing group of helpful members brimming with raw talent!

Sincerely,
Steve “CROSS” Holford   907.888.0825

NELDA’S NOTES:

Thanks to all of you who have paid your dues.  It is gratifying to see all the checks come rolling in.  There are still a few to come yet.  Remember if you want to put a painting in our Annual show, your dues need to be up to date.  We will have forms at the meeting and I can always email you one if you can’t get it from the website. Email me or call 456-3329 if you need anything additional.

Last month I included the guidelines for our annual March show, which is much the same as last year, as well as the entry forms and info sheet for the paintings you will enter.  As we’ve mentioned a few times, the theme this year is “Vintage Alaska”  which can mean just about anything old….  Scenes, landscapes, buildings, cars, trucks, equipment, trees, old bottles, clothing, hair-do’s and of course, people.  I think we can have a lot of fun with this theme, and it will be interesting to see what we all come up with.  That’s why I love helping with intake.  This year it will be on Feb. 23rd, noon to 5pm at Well Street.  It will be exciting… remember: watermedia, since we are a watercolor society, which means watercolor or acrylic.

Check out our web site. www.fairbankswatercolor.org  I just checked and Twila has it up to date with forms for the show and I know she will put the Garcia registration form on there too.  The newsletters through January and the last Tickler  are posted in a blog.  Really easy to read.  I think the print is a little bigger than here and it’s easy to find.  We will get forms on there for the show.  Look under News for show forms.

AND,  This month I am including the registration sheet for the Joe Garcia Workshop. May 13-17, at St. Raphael’s.  Most all the information is there.  Please get your registration in as soon as you can to make sure you get a spot.  Again space is limited.  You can pay the one half deposit or the full amount now.  The full cost is going to be $375.  He is very excited to be coming to Alaska and has us listed on his website. www.joegarcia.cog.

I kind of squished the Guidelines, so it would take up less space here, and attached again the Artist Painting Forms for you and your paintings.  Pretty self-explanatory.   We’ll have some copies at the meeting as well.
